Piano Moving

WOW!

A piano is heavy, awkward, and easy to ruin if it’s handled by people without the right gear. Accessible Moving moves pianos around Massillon and Stark County with the proper equipment and a crew trained for it, all under our own licensed, bonded, and insured authority. We don’t farm this out. Our W-2 movers do it.

Find out why Stark County folks go with movers in Massillon when it’s time for a flat-rate move.

Service covers wrapping and padding the instrument, securing it for transport, the move itself, and setting it in place at the new home. Uprights, baby grands, and full grands each get a method suited to their size and balance.

The equipment and our stairs-and-basement method

This is the specialty part. We bring a piano dolly or skid board, heavy straps, and thick padding, and for a grand we partially disassemble the legs and pedal lyre, then stand it on its edge on a padded board the way grands are meant to travel. Uprights are strapped upright on a four-wheel dolly and tipped only when the doorway demands it.

Stairs and basements are where most piano damage happens, and where our method matters most. On a staircase we use a controlled, roped descent or climb with movers above and below, never letting the instrument’s weight run away on the steps. A lot of Massillon homes keep the piano in the basement, so we plan the turn at the bottom of those narrow older staircases before we ever lift, and we protect the walls and treads as we go.

Pricing depends on the instrument. Uprights run $239 to $389, baby grands $409 to $599, and full grands $559 to $929, with the exact figure tied to stairs and access. We give you one written number. A $89 deposit holds the date.

What’s outside the job

We’ll haul your piano, but we don’t tune it. A piano should be tuned after it settles in its new spot, and that’s a job for a tuner, not a mover. We don’t repair existing damage to the instrument, and we don’t move pianos by exterior hoist or crane; if a unit truly can’t fit the stairs, we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

❓ COMMON QUESTIONS ❓

Q: Can you get a piano up or down a tight basement staircase?

A: Usually, yes, and we do it often in older Massillon homes. We scope the staircase, the turn at the bottom, and the doorway before lifting, then use a controlled roped method with movers stationed above and below so the weight never runs away on the steps. If a staircase genuinely can't take the instrument, we'll say so before you book rather than risk it.

Q: Why does a grand piano get moved on its side?

A: A grand is built to rest on a padded board on its edge with the legs and pedal lyre removed, which protects the legs and balances the weight for safe carrying. We disassemble those parts, pad and strap the body, move it on the board, and reassemble it at your home. It looks dramatic but it's the standard, safe way to move a grand.

Q: Do you tune the piano after moving it?

A: No, tuning is a separate trade. We recommend giving the piano a couple of weeks to settle in its new room and adjust to the temperature and humidity, then bringing in a tuner. Moving can knock a piano slightly out of tune, so plan on a tuning afterward, but that's a job for a piano technician rather than the moving crew.
